Erin Buchanan

Program Director, Communication Teacher

Erin Buchanan began her career as a special education teacher in the Frederick County Public Schools in 2012 after graduating with a Bachelor of Arts in Elementary and Special Education from Hood College. Throughout her public school career as a dedicated teacher for 13 years, she earned honors as Special Educator and Teacher of the Year at various elementary schools in Frederick County. She has supported students with a wide range of communication needs, utilizing strategies from picture symbols and phonics-based approaches to advanced AAC technologies. She received certification in Orton-Gillingham and has utilized this expertise in phonological awareness and phonics instruction with students of various ages and abilities.

Erin is currently pursuing a Master's degree in Education at Hood College. She is passionate about helping every learner find their voice—believing that with the right tools and support, all students can communicate, connect, and thrive.  Her instructional approach is rooted in the belief that every learner has a unique voice that deserves to be heard. Driven by empathy and innovation, Erin tailors each learning experience using multisensory strategies that align with her students’ individual strengths and interests. Her classroom is a space where communication barriers are met with creativity, patience, and evidence-based support. She is thrilled to join the REV team as the new program director!
