Accessible Academics is designed for parents, educators, and others who support the education of nonspeaking students and students with communication access needs. The course is a self-paced ten-week dive into strategies for adapting curriculum at any grade level, with modeling across subject areas: phonics, reading comprehension, math, science, history, academic and creative writing. It also includes resources for ensuring IEP goals and supplementary aids and services are written to provide meaningful access for nonspeaking students. The course was originally developed during the 2020 school closures, when families and educators needed practical strategies for adapting curriculum at home as virtual school offerings fell short for nonspeaking students. Yes. REV's Phonics for Nonspeakers is a six-part recorded workshop series that blends Orton-Gillingham structured literacy with strategies specifically designed for nonspeaking and minimally speaking learners using text-based AAC. The series is led by Miranda Cobo, a trained Orton-Gillingham instructor. Orton-Gillingham is a structured, multimodal approach to phonics instruction with a strong evidence base, but most existing materials assume the learner can produce spoken speech sounds. The adaptations Miranda teaches make structured literacy accessible to learners who communicate by pointing, spelling, or typing. The workshop is appropriate for parents, educators, and communication partners who support nonspeaking, minimally speaking, or unreliably speaking learners regardless of diagnosis.
