Not at all. Most REV online instructors are certified teachers who bring depth of knowledge to their subject area along with an understanding of how to pace instruction and provide scaffolded response opportunities so students of varying communication skills can participate meaningfully. Students who are working on spelling single words, making choices, or using open-ended communication skills will all find participation opportunities throughout each class.
Yes. For students using text-based AAC, a trained communication partner needs to be present in the room with the student during online classes to hold the letterboard or keyboard, provide motor support, and assist with regulation as needed. This is essential for meaningful participation.
If you are not yet trained as a communication partner, we recommend Communication for Education courses as a starting point. Our Communication Partner Skill Building Intensive offers more advanced, in-person training.
Live classes meet at scheduled times with an instructor and other students present. Students can participate in real-time discussion, ask questions, and engage with peers. Recordings are available afterward if a student cannot attend live.
Recorded classes are pre-produced courses available on demand from our archive. There is no live instructor and no scheduled meeting time. Students and communication partners work through the material at their own pace.
See our online classes page for current options and pricing.
Live class series are typically open for enrollment 24 hours prior to the start of the first class through website registration. We are often able to accommodate late enrollments after the series has started by providing recordings for missed classes, but this will require our admin team's help.
Check the specific class page for enrollment details, or email us at info@reacheveryvoice.org if you are unsure whether a particular class is right to join now.
Recorded classes can be started at any time.
You will need:
A reliable internet connection
A device with a camera and microphone (laptop, tablet, or desktop)
The student's letterboard, keyboard, or other communication tool
A trained communication partner present in the room
Classes are conducted via Zoom. We will send connection details by email before each session.
That is okay. Communication and regulation are not always reliably available, and we do not expect students to perform on demand. If a student needs to step away, take a break, or attend a session with reduced participation, that is a normal part of the work. Recordings are available for any class a student misses or partially attends.
Online classes are designed for the registered student and their communication partner. Siblings or other family members are welcome to be in the room as long as their presence supports rather than disrupts the student's participation. We are not able to enroll multiple students under a single registration; if you have more than one student who would benefit from a class, please register each separately.
